Discovering the Local and Meeting Ourselves

We spent our weekends well in October, supporting two local events that celebrate Tucson’s diverse culture and economy.

We helped kick off the TENWEST Festival with Discover Local at the Tucson Museum of Art, as part of Second SundAZe, offering free admission to residents of Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. We were proud to sponsor an event connecting community members to localism through micro-workshops focused on art, technology, and sustainability. Workshops and activities included hands-on demonstrations on effective recycling, energy efficiency and DIY rainwater harvesting; information about the urban ecosystem connecting people to the Sonoran Desert; lessons in DIY resources for innovation and micro-entrepreneurship; and activities celebrating the diverse community with public art, music, games and more.

We also braved the rain for the 45th annual Tucson Meet Yourself Folklife Festival, celebrating food, music, dance, and folk arts, of over 60 cultures and ethnic groups in the region. From our both in the Community Matters section, we helped festival-goers learn more about our new paradigm for health care. We love talking to the public, and, of course, we ate well from some of our favorite food booths!

Throughout the weekend we met so many people and learned so much about Tucson, we really felt we had discovered our community’s heart and in doing so, met ourselves.

We’re so proud to sponsor and participate in community events like these, which celebrate the backbone of our community—its diverse people and their endless creativity.
