Job Summary: The Medical Assistant demonstrates a high level of competence in providing the best support healthcare services assistance possible to the patients at the Southern Arizona Urgent Care clinics. The MA will enhance the healthcare practice reputation by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures.  He/she will provide clinical and business office assistance and add value to the job each shift by assuring each patient receives the best experience possible.

 

Line of Authority/Reports to: Lead Medical Assistant, Lead Medical Assistant Trainer, EVP of Administration
Works with:  Management, Super Teams and Patient’s

Status: Exempt

Qualifications/Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for MA’s.
  • Experience in a medical office setting.
  • MA and CPR certified.
  • Must have sufficient knowledge of Southern Arizona Urgent Care’s policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Good knowledge base in Medical Terminology
  • Able to accurately calculate med dosages

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Knowledge of CPT and/or ICD-10 coding
  • Working knowledge of medical insurance verification
  • OSHA certification preferred but not required

Duties and Areas of Responsibility

  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Understands, adheres to, and stays current on all policies and procedures of Southern Arizona Urgent Care, including OSHA regulations, CPR.
  • Greets and escorts patients from the waiting room to the exam room and obtains medical history and vital signs
  • Records patient notes and data in patient’s electronic chart.
  • Able to perform manual cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Able to perform EKG’s with appropriate training.
  • Perform venipuncture and routine in-house laboratory tests.
  • Assist, as needed, with patient referrals and scheduling patients for special procedures outside the clinic.
  • Issue educational material to patients and assist, as needed, in application and in patient instruction.
  • Monitor and ensure the completeness of patient charts and medical records.
  • May be required to respond to and refer incoming telephone calls, instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.
  • Able to work under pressure during high patient volume and critical patient situations
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Skilled in assisting in a variety of treatments and dispensing medications as directed by a provider.
  • Skilled in maintaining patient records, charting Provider orders and patient test results timely and accurately.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, all staff, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Able to read, understand and respond to detailed oral or written instructions.
  • Medical assistants will work under the direction of the providers. They will assist the providers in performing necessary treatments for patients including scribing. They will not assess, diagnose, or treat any patient on their own accord.

  • Understand all aspects of the EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures, organizational policies and procedures, systems and office management practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population.
  • Skills in identifying and resolving problems exercising initiative and judgment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with super teams, patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Proficiency in the operation of a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend stoop and stretch.
  • Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports and the ability to focus.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally drive to other locations.
  • Maintain a current and valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients up to 300 lbs., manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Involved standing and walking or extensive periods. Requires corrected vision to 20/20 and hearing to normal range.
  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical practice environment.
